PC gaming is and only will be free (sans MMOs). When the next Xbox gets closer to PC gaming, it is going to be harder to justify paying for online service. Yes, eventually Nintendo will get online right (3 generations from now). Sony is quickly closing the gap and could force them to make it free if the PS3 were in the Xbox 360 position..
